The Ancient of Days (1794) by William Blake is an iconic image from his illuminated book Europe a Prophecy. It depicts a bearded figure, often interpreted as Urizen, a symbol of order and reason, crouched in a fiery orb and wielding a compass to measure the universe. The dramatic use of light, shadow, and vibrant colours emphasizes creation and divine power.
