Woman with Snake (Femme au Serpent), from the Thirteen Nocturnes series, was painted by Pierre-Amédée Marcel-Béronneau (1869–1947) in 1906. A striking example of French Symbolism, the work portrays a mysterious, veiled woman holding a black serpent—an enduring symbol of temptation, knowledge, and transformation. Its haunting palette and dreamlike atmosphere evoke themes of beauty, mortality, and the enigmatic power of the femme fatale, inviting contemplation rather than narrative certainty.
