Death of Sappho (1881) by Miguel Carbonell Selva shows the moment just before the poet Sappho leaps into the sea. According to legend, Sappho was heartbroken after being rejected by the ferryman Phaon, and in her despair she climbed the cliffs of Leucas and threw herself into the waves below.

 

Frame:

Created from high-quality wood, milled with simple clean lines and presented with a satin finish. Includes an off-white mount that will not discolour or fade with age.
