Munch – A Graphic Biography
Shipping price will be calculated at checkout.
Edvard Munch’s life is often approached through the anguish associated with The Scream. Steffen Kverneland’s graphic biography opens up a more varied portrait, using comics to explore the artist’s relationships, experiences and obsessions, with room for humour and optimism alongside difficulty.
The text draws on writings by Munch and his contemporaries. That research is brought into the visual and sequential language of the graphic biography, offering readers a different way to encounter an artist’s life. Words and images work together to move between the person, his surroundings and the experiences that make his story compelling.
This 280-page paperback will appeal to readers who enjoy illustrated biography as well as those interested in emotionally intense modern art. It offers a substantial narrative to spend time with, rather than a conventional catalogue of paintings. An engaging choice for anyone who wants to look beyond a single famous image and meet a more complex Munch.
