Human Frailty | Salvator Rosa | 1656

Salvator Rosa’s "Human Frailty" presents a stark meditation on life and death. A winged skeleton looms from the shadows, inscribing a child’s fate as a mother and infants remain absorbed in tender, everyday acts. The contrast between innocence and the ever-present figure of Death gives the scene its unsettling power, reminding the viewer of the fragility of human life and the inevitability of mortality.
