The Field of the Slain (1916) by Evelyn De Morgan is a haunting allegory of war and mourning. A winged, sorrowful figure moves gently across a battlefield, gathering the pale faces of the dead into flowing folds of her robe. Set against a barren landscape, the painting conveys quiet grief, spiritual compassion, and the immense human cost of conflict.
