Méduse, circa 1897. Painting by Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer (1865–1953).

A haunting depiction of Medusa, the monstrous figure from Greek mythology, emerging from turbulent waters with serpentine forms entwined in her hair. Her wide eyes and open mouth convey an expression of anguish and terror, while the swirling greens and blues lend the scene a dreamlike, unsettling atmosphere. Lévy-Dhurmer’s Symbolist style presents Medusa as both frightening and tragically human.
