Ruined Castle with Two Circling Eagles (1886) by Swiss Symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin presents a solitary ruin rising above a dark autumn landscape. Two eagles circle beneath turbulent clouds, lending the scene a brooding, mysterious atmosphere and evoking themes of solitude, decay, and the sublime power of nature.
